Aizu Shinsengumi Memorial Hall
The Aizu Shinsengumi Memorial Hall is located on Nanokamachi in Aizuwakamatsu and is a privately run museum dedicated primarily to the Shinsengumi and the Aizu-han.

In addition to Shinsengumi-related artefacts, the Hall presents a relatively comprehensive collection of matchlock firearms, bladed weapons and various wartime items used by the Aizu during the Boshin War. It has also collaborated with television broadcasters, providing antique military equipment for production research, props and period antiques for use in the television dramas Yae no Sakura and Kaze no Tōge: Ginga no Fu. The collection extends beyond exhibition display and has actively contributed to modern visual reconstructions of late-Edo history.

The Hall’s owner and family have devoted themselves to collecting antiques and historical materials from the Aizu region for many years, with an emphasis on weaponry and military-related objects.

The Hall itself is housed in a former warehouse built in 1889 and later converted for exhibition use. In terms of layout, the first floor is open to the public free of charge and features displays of Shinsengumi and Aizu han–related artefacts and small-scale exhibits. The second floor is reserved for special exhibitions and requires an admission fee. The enclosed photographs were taken in 2023, when the second-floor special exhibition focused on the “Aizu-han and Satsuma-han,” presenting opposing perspectives from the Boshin War.
